Looking for the best technology on the market and to lay the foundations for future innovation, Leeds Building Society chose Iress Mortgage Sales and Originations (MSO) software. Everything was falling into place, then COVID-19 hit, adding to the challenges of successful delivery.

We spoke to Louisa Brownlie, programme manager for Leeds Building Society, about completing major transformation in tough conditions.

"Faster, reliable decisions, and an easier mortgage journey"

“We wanted to make sure the Society could work in the most efficient way to benefit our colleagues, customers and intermediary partners. By adopting MSO, our ambition was to enable faster, reliable decisions and an easier mortgage application journey. We were frantically busy and on schedule for the planned go-live in August. Then lockdown hit.

We had to think harder about how we would make this project happen. It was daunting as our delivery model hinged on face to face interactions to solve the many issues that can arise daily during large-scale delivery. In my mind, there was no question that we had to stick to the plan, it was just a case of how. We had committed to our board, colleagues, and customers that we would deliver. It just meant finding a new working dynamic with Iress."

Iress couldn’t have been more helpful. Remote sessions were held regularly so the quality of our test results remained as high as if we had been in the office.

“Iress successfully delivered our first lockdown software drop in March. This coincided with Society IT teams working tirelessly to transition colleagues to home working. The levels of telephone conference calls were genuinely off the scale. I am grateful the Iress and Leeds Building Society teams were working seamlessly and effectively and we felt supported through the delivery process, and not detached or distant.
