We recently announced a new partnership with the Australia Bond Exchange (ABE), enabling Australian financial advisers, private investors, SMSF trustees, and brokers to electronically invest in Australian bonds, to diversify their source of income and mitigate portfolio risk.

Recent market volatility due to the coronavirus crisis has exposed private investors to significant risks in their equity investments. With over $1 trillion worth of bonds on issue, the Australian bond market is amongst the largest in the world and until now, most Australians have been unable to invest in them and have been missing out on this opportunity.

Bradley McCosker, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Australian Bond Exchange shared in the announcement that “increasing numbers of Australians are now entering retirement, and their ability to generate sustainable retirement income is severely compromised by substantial falls in their superannuation balances as a result of recent sharemarket volatility. By investing directly in bonds, Australians can now diversify their sources of income, reduce portfolio risks, and benefit from the security and peace of mind that bond investors enjoy.”

Our integration with the ABE has been driven by demand from our users, and we’re excited to have built a simpler, more efficient way to access the corporate bond market.

Users of our market data and trading software Iress Pro, online trading and market data software ViewPoint, and financial advice software, Xplan, can now access all bonds admitted to trading status on the ABE platform. The new electronic interface will remove inefficient, manual data entry processes, and provide the ability to view real-time pricing data, subscribe to data feeds and directly place execution orders.

Ultimately, the partnership will make the process of researching, tracking and trading corporate bonds as simple and easy as trading shares.

Kirsty Gross, our Managing Director - Financial Markets for Australia & NZ said: “We’re delighted to have built a simpler, more efficient way to access the corporate bond market which makes tracking and trading bonds as simple and easy as share trading. I’m also excited this integration is not only available to users of Iress Pro and ViewPoint but also our financial advice clients through Xplan.”

Our global network provides access to over 200 global markets, and supports over 12,000 trading and market data users and 100,000 advice software users.
