St Angsars School is a high school in the Joe Slovo Community in Lanseria, Johannesburg. The school caters for over 870 learners who have had little or no exposure to computers or computer skills training. Over the past few years, it has become increasingly important for the next generation workforce to have basic computer skills.

As a result, our team embarked on a journey with Seeds of Africa to help build an IT Lab for the St Angsars School and surrounding community. Iress assisted by enabling the school to reach its goals of building a fully functional IT Lab by contributing towards computers, computer workstations, internet access, printer access, security and infrastructure set up through donations of old equipment as well as funding.

The IT Lab enables the school to introduce much needed computer skills into the curriculum of all the learners, equipping them for the workforce and tertiary institutions. In addition, the IT Lab will serve to uplift the community around the school with computer training and the opportunity to apply for employment and enhance themselves through e-learning.

The CSR team joined st Ansgars for the official opening of the IT Lab and we were met with warmth and joy from the school principal Mr Ngwenya as well as the learners. The computers were loaded with educational software to teach basic coding by a company called Sovtech.

It was such a soul-warming experience to be able to give the children the power of education that will undoubtedly have a huge impact on their lives.

CSR SA looks forward to engaging and enriching the children and the community around St Angsars going forward. In fact, we would love to see some of the St Angsars children as future Iressians!
