Meet the team - Chermaine Barton

Chermaine Barton from Melbourne, Australia, tells us when she's not heading to a tech meet up, you'll find her at the beach.

Hey Chermaine, what do you do at Iress?

I’m a part of the talent acquisition team, which I feel super lucky to be apart of. I catch up with managers around our business to help them with any new hires they need, and I get to meet and speak to some great people that want to join us.

I am the first person people speak to on their recruitment journey. So, it’s pretty cool to eventually see them walking around the office in their new gig.

I particularly love helping run a female coders meet-up. We get together, eat pizza and go through current hurdles in their work.

A key part of my role is getting involved in events and meet-ups to make sure I’m integrated into the tech community. I particularly love helping run a female coders meet-up. We get together, eat pizza and go through current hurdles in their work.

What is life at Iress like?

Fast paced and really varied. It’s an environment that encourages innovation and looking at ways to make things better. You need to ride the wave and jump on to get things done which keeps things interesting.

Being part of a global team gives me the opportunity to learn how other regions are attracting talent. This helps diversify our approach. We operate differently in different countries due to laws and regulations - so every day’s a school day.

Each office has its own buzz, whether it’s for games night, an up and coming event, or our hackathon - the list goes on.

What is the best thing about working at Iress?

My colleagues. They are so friendly and helpful which makes a real difference to our working culture. Iress offers a flexible work environment . This has such a positive impact on my life.

We’re given the technology to work from anywhere so it’s no drama if life decides to chuck you a curveball! The pizza, free fruit and coffee machines are pretty good too.

I feel like you have the opportunity to make a difference here. The leadership team are especially receptive to new ideas and if you have a better way of doing things, you’re encouraged to give it a go.

I feel like you have the opportunity to make a difference here.

The ability to grow and develop is also a plus point. Since being here I’ve set up our sponsorship for the AWS (Amazon Web Services) Summit where it was incredible to see all the ground-breaking technologies out there and meet some really interesting people. I've helped with grad assessment days and have had the opportunity to learn about innovation and analytics when it comes to job seekers.

What do you tell your mates about Iress?

That it is fast paced. I can’t drop the ball, but I love it.

What makes you tick outside of work?

I want to say something super cultured but I am who I am! I love a good box set and a takeaway. On the weekend you can find me walking along the beach, rain or shine. Or at the pub.
